Arsenal’s Title Dream: Can the Gunners Finally Go All the Way?

After Matchday 20 of the 2025–26 Premier League season, football analytics specialists Opta have crunched the numbers and delivered a striking verdict on the title race. According to the latest output from Opta’s statistical model, Arsenal now have an 86.15 % chance of winning the Premier League  by far the strongest probability of any club this season.

Arsenal in Command

Following a strong mid-season run, Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table with 48 points from 20 matches. They’re six points clear of both Manchester City and Aston Villa, who each have 42 points and much smaller title probabilities (9.84 % and 3.93 % respectively in Opta’s model).

This commanding position reflects Arsenal’s consistency under Mikel Arteta, combining intelligent tactical planning, a fluid attacking style, and a deep squad capable of handling the rigours of a long campaign.

How Opta Sees It: Numbers Don’t Lie

Opta’s model is one of the most respected analytic tools in football. It runs thousands of simulated outcomes for the rest of the season, using current form, fixtures, and statistical patterns to estimate how likely each club is to finish first. That Arsenal’s probability is so high above 86 % tells us two things:

  1. They are far and away the most probable champions right now, barring a dramatic collapse.

  2. The chasing pack hasn’t only dropped points they’ve done so at the wrong times, allowing Arsenal to build breathing room at the top of the table.

What Does History Say?

From a historical angle, a clear lead at this stage certainly improves the odds of ending a title drought but it’s not a guarantee. Previous leaders with similar advantages have sometimes been overtaken. However, Opta’s model looks not just at the current points gap but also at the wider landscape: remaining fixtures, goal-difference trajectories, and expected future results. The result? A statistically strong likelihood that this could finally be Arsenal’s year.

The Title Race Narrative

For Arsenal fans, this season feels different. After several close calls in recent years, the club appear poised to end a long wait for Premier League glory their first since the famous “Invincibles” campaign in 2003–04. Every point won now pushes the dream closer to reality.

For rivals like City and Villa, the statistical mountain is steepening. They’re still very much in the race and a few surprise results could swing momentum but right now the numbers favour Arsenal heavily.

What’s Next?

Football is unpredictable, and we’ve seen title races swing wildly before. But with over 80 % of Opta’s predictions tipping Arsenal to finish first, there’s a real sense that this season could be one for the history books in north London.

Whether that prediction holds will come down to consistency, squad fitness, and how the Gunners handle pressure in the final months. But right now, the headline reads: Arsenal favourites for the Premier League
